FOR KIDS: Reflection Game - Strawberries
"Reflection” - At the end of the day, it can be a great time to reflect.
If you had a good day, take a moment to appreciate the meaningful moments, the fun experiences, and everything that brought you joy.
Or maybe you had a difficult day. In that case, take time to reflect on how things unfolded. Could anything have gone differently? If so, consider what you might have done. If not, practice compassion—both for yourself and others. If the day was difficult because of someone else's actions, extend understanding where possible. And if it was simply due to chance, allow yourself to let it go.
I am ready to go to bed and just took 5 deep breaths and feel very calm and ready to relax. It is a great time to reflect on the day:
We started early, picking fresh strawberries. Then, we went home, washed them and began processing them. We made strawberry jam, baked a strawberry pie and froze some for smoothies.
Even though I’m tired, it was so much fun to create so many recipes that will help the strawberries last longer. I’m learning that there are many ways to preserve food for later use. I love the idea of being resourceful—sometimes, when an unexpected expense comes up, we’re grateful that we didn’t let any food go to waste. Instead of making an extra trip to the store, we can simply take something out of the freezer. It definitely saves my family money, and we get to enjoy nearly all the food we purchase.
I also learned how useful freezing can be for preserving meals. It’s pretty amazing that freezers exist—how fascinating that mankind has invented so much, and we all benefit from it!
We still have plenty of fresh strawberries to eat, too. My dad showed me how rinsing them under hot water removes mold spores, which helps them last longer. There’s so much to learn, and today was full of new lessons. Best of all, I had fun and got to spend quality time with my family.
We got all the strawberries processed!
